Hello, and welcome!
My name is Daniel Lindner. This blog is here because of two things I’m very passionate about: Great Lakes ships and photography. I am currently a cadet at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Michigan, from where I plan to graduate in the spring of 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Maritime Technology. This degree will allow me to begin the sailing career I’ve dreamt about since I was a kid, and eventually reach my goal of becoming a Lakes captain.
Unfortunately, Traverse City is not located near any major shipping ports, and my college schedule prevents me from traveling to such ports more than a few times each year. Since I don’t get to go boatwatching that often, I also use this blog to update readers on things happening around the Lakes. That way, I can keep the site active when I’m not posting my own photos of ships.
On the right side menu, you’ll find the Archives, which contain all of my posts since I started this blog back in 2015. If you are unfamiliar with Great Lakes shipping, you’ll learn quite a bit by browsing through the last four years’ worth of content, although be warned that some of the older posts are a bit cringy – I was just 14 when I started this site! You’ll also find a Links section in the right side menu, where you can visit numerous websites and other blogs from around the Lakes with more information about the industry and the vessels you’ll see on the Lakes.
Check back often for new posts, and thanks for visiting!
All photos on this blog are taken by me, unless otherwise noted. None of the content may be re-used or redistributed without my permission. If you’d like to use any content you find here, please don’t hesitate to contact me with your request.
